The Storyteller of Oxford

The Storyteller

The Storyteller spends their days in Oxford’s finest spot, the Captains’ Bar, on the corner of Cornmarket Channel and Ship Strait. Only the days, mind – they’d never be such a cuckoo as to sit there when the colourful lanterns dangling from its famous tree are lit, and the captains want the tables for their rum.

From that shipshape spot with the sailships gliding past, they watch the town’s goings-on and startle their apprentice with legends, sea-tales, and stories newly afloat. It’s their solemn duty not to interfere, though, however much they may wish to. That’s the responsibility of knowing all the stories. Of an evening, they head to the Garden Tavern to set their hat out and delight the townsfolk with Tavern Tales.

They prefer not to be approached with a pack of cards for the purpose of magic tricks.

All their stories are faithfully written down by…

MD Kerr lives in a less watery but no less magical Oxford, which brims with astrolabes. As well as scribing for the Storyteller, they write literary and fantastical fiction and poetry. Under assorted identities, they’ve published novels, novellas, short stories, and poems.
